Supporting Informed & Mindful Eating

A food transparency initiative empowering conscious choices.

Connecting people with local businesses that align with their health, ethical, and lifestyle values.

We believe people deserve to know what’s in their food.

How it’s prepared.
Where it comes from.
What it’s cooked in.
And who it supports.

Supporting Informed & Mindful Eating is a Ren Wellness initiative designed to make transparent food choices more accessible, not just at home, but when eating out or shopping locally.

Because informed choices create confident consumers.
And confident consumers help shape healthier food systems.

A Personal Note

As a family, we don’t often eat out.

Part of the reason is that it can be incredibly difficult to find places where we feel confident in the ingredients being used.

Conversations about cooking oils, sourcing, or preparation methods can feel uncomfortable. Asking what oil the fryer uses. Wondering whether “butter” is actually butter, or a blend with a long ingredient list. Trying to determine whether foods contain processed ingredients without seeming difficult.

Often, staff simply don’t know, and that’s not a criticism. Transparency just hasn’t been prioritised in most modern food systems.

Over time, this becomes discouraging. Not because we expect perfection, but because we clarity is so important.

There have been many times we have been sold a food product thinking it aligns with our way of eating, only to feel unwell afterward, and later discover that we were not given accurate information.

This initiative was born from these experiences.

From our desire to confidently support local businesses.
From our belief that transparency benefits everyone.
From our hope that eating out can feel wholesome, not uncomfortable.

Our Vision

We are developing a community-focused app that helps people discover restaurants, cafés, butchers, grocers, farm gate stalls, and other food producers that align with their individual dietary, health, and ethical needs.

The app will provide transparent, clearly organised information about:

  • Ingredients
  • Cooking oils and fats
  • Sourcing practices
  • Food preparation methods
  • Allergen awareness
  • Packaging and sustainability practices

This platform is not about judgement or exclusion.

It is about choice.
It is about transparency.
It is about trust.

Who This Is For

While the app is for everyone, it has been intentionally designed with the following communities in mind:

  • Whole-food and ancestral eaters
  • Seed-oil-conscious consumers
  • Low-tox and plastic-aware families
  • Allergy-aware households (gluten, dairy, nuts, etc.)
  • Ethical and local-first shoppers
  • Travellers wanting to maintain their lifestyle away from home

So many health-conscious people feel they cannot eat out confidently.

We’re going to change that.

How It Works

Food establishments are invited to complete a structured transparency questionnaire outlining key aspects of their practices, including:

  • Sourcing of meat, seafood, eggs, and produce

  • Use of seed oils or traditional fats

  • 100% grass-fed and grass-finished meat

  • Pasture-raised eggs and ethical dairy

  • Organic or spray-free produce

  • Refined sugars and artificial additives

  • Minimally processed food preparation

  • Allergen awareness and cross-contamination practices

  • Packaging and sustainability

  • Low-tox cleaning products and indoor air quality

All information displayed in the app is provided directly by the business, clearly marked if verified, and updated as practices evolve.

Community suggestions are welcome; however, “Ren Verified” status is granted only after confirmation from the business.

Transparency builds trust, for both consumers and businesses.

If your business already prioritises thoughtful sourcing, traditional preparation methods, low-tox practices, and clear ingredient standards, similar to the above, we would love to connect.

Thousands of Australians are actively searching for food providers who share their values. Our goal is simple: to connect your existing practices with the community members who appreciate and actively seek them.

If you’re already doing this work, let us help you share it.

Why This Matters

Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of:

  • Highly processed ingredients
  • Industrial seed oils
  • Additives and preservatives
  • Microplastics and chemical exposure
  • Industrialised food systems

At the same time, many small ethical businesses struggle to communicate the care and quality behind what they offer.

By bridging this gap, we:

  • Empower individuals to make informed decisions
  • Support local farmers and ethical producers
  • Promote traditional food practices
  • Strengthen local food economies
  • Encourage greater transparency within the industry

When transparency exists, trust follows.

And when trust grows, communities thrive.

Where We Are Now

This initiative is currently in its early stages of development.

We are:

  • Building the app platform
  • Beginning direct conversations with local establishments
  • Developing a transparent verification system

We are building this intentionally, prioritising integrity over speed.

How You Can Get Involved

This is a community-powered initiative.

You can support us by:

  • Volunteering (especially in app development or systems design)
  • Introducing us to local food businesses you love to support
  • Completing our questionnaire if you are a food provider
  • Sharing this initiative within your networks
  • Partnering with us as a values-aligned organisation

If you are a food business interested in being included on our future map, we would be honoured to connect.

The food we choose is foundational to our health.

Transparency restores choice, autonomy, and in turn, strengthens communities, and empowers us to make better food choices, without any feelings of judgement or discomfort.

If you have questions or would like to explore collaboration opportunities, we would love to hear from you.

We look forward to working alongside you to care for ourselves, our planet, and our community.
